Getting ready to hit the road.

Well - we have been cleared from the doctor to travel south this winter.  We are planning on heading down to the RV in Ferndale on Saturday morning and then hitting the road on Sunday.  I can't believe how much 'stuff' we need to pack to take with us.  With cold weather here and much warmer down south - we need quite a few different clothes.  Today I will be going through each room at home to see if there is anything I have forgotten to take and Lou will be outside moving the motorbike into the garage and checking tire pressures etc. on the truck.

The highway through Oregon and into California has received quite a bit of snow and has had lots of icy patches the last few days so we are watching the weather which says it should warm up by Sunday.  Fingers Crossed!

We are both sick.

Well - nothing like being away in the RV and you are both hacking and feeling like crap.  Add to that a little 4 year old and Oh My - fun times.  We did manage to go out for a drive yesterday and stop by a great burger joint for lunch.  We don't get Carl's Jr. up in Canada so it's was nice to stop in somewhere different.

Today, we are staying home and trying not to kill ourselves coughing.  It was going to be a laundry day but - that may also have to wait.  Thank God we have lots of kids movies etc. to keep Jade entertained.  I think I will be taking an afternoon nap with her today.

Jade - occupied with the IPAD while traveling.

Arriving at the RV Park in Portland, Oregon.

All set up for the next week.

Enjoying lunch outside.

Finally - on the road again.

Yesterday we hooked up the RV in our home park in Ferndale, WA and hit the road for the first time this year.  We have our 4 year old grand-daughter Jade with us on this little 1 week trip and  since I am suffering from a nasty summer cold I'm hoping things improve soon.

We left at 8:45 in the morning and headed straight down the I-5 for Portland, Oregon.  We had quite a few small rain showers as we went but it was still warm out.  Jade was hooked up with her IPAD which kept her busy watching movies etc.  We took the 405 around Seattle but the traffic was still very heavy.  We stopped just before noon at the Maytown Rest Area which is a little south of Olympia for lunch and a potty break.  After about 30 minutes we were back on the road and the sun was shining.  We pulled into the Columbia River RV Park http://www.columbiariverrv.com/ around 2pm and were totally set up on a lovely cement pad site by 2:30.  We took the afternoon to relax and went out for a little drive to find a Fred Meyer as Jade needed some new sandals and more underwear.  Back home for a nice lite dinner of BarBQ chicken and salad and crawled into bed around 10pm.

Today started quite cloudy but within a short time the sun came out and it's is warming up nicely.  We plan to do a little exploring around the city today and maybe find a park with a playground.  Will hopefully get some photos while we are out and about.

Back home after 2 weeks at The Cedars - Ferndale, WA

Our first RV trip of the year was both great and not so great.  First off - the Easter week-end was just beautiful.  We had the most wonderful warm weather for the end of March.  It was great to welcome the RV Park managers (Kathy & Rich) back from their winter down south. Some other RV friends (Marilyn & Alf) that we haven't seen for a few years were staying in the park so it was really nice to re-connect with them and spend time catching up each other's lives.  Here is Alf & Lou kicking back in the warm 72F sun on March 30th.  Nice!!!
When we first met Marilyn & Alf, they lived full-time in their 5th wheel and traveled between the US and Canada.  A couple of years ago they decided to buy a house in Grand Forks, BC and sell their 5th wheel but bought a much smaller one for the short rv trips that they still wanted to enjoy.  Here is their (new to them) 5th wheel that they have been sprucing up and fine tuning.
On Saturday, they had an Easter Egg hunt for the kids and here is a
clown and little boy who graciously stopped to allow me to snap a photo.
After the Easter week-end I unfortunately came down with a nasty flu and spent the next week trying to stay warm and get over it.  The second week we had some more visitors as Jason and Jade came down and Jade spent one night with us.  Here is Jade showing off her new Knitting Felted purse that her Auntie Moo sent for her birthday.
Fred & Elaine were staying in their RV in Birch Bay so we were able to spend some time with them too.  Elaine and I just HAD to go shopping at Joann's and then we all went for a nice lunch at Applebees.  All in all it was a great trip with great people.

Finally! RV time once again.

The weather here in the BC lower mainland has been amazing for the last few days and is expected to continue for a little while.  We are taking advantage of it and heading across the border to spend some time in the RV.  Hubby went down yesterday to set up the RV and de-winterize it.  It takes a little time to flush out the water lines and do a little 'spring cleaning' before we are ready to enjoy the camping season.  We always find lots of dead flies in the shower area.

We will spend a couple of weeks at The Cedars RV Resort in Ferndale, WA.  We know there are quite a few RV friends there already so it will be nice to visit with them and hear all about their winter months.  This week-end is Easter and I'm not sure if we will see Jade or not as her dad isn't to keen on crossing the border on a long week-end.  Oh well - soon enough we can see her and give her the 'goodies' we have for her.
If anyone is heading our way - drop by and say hello.

I think we should have gone south...

Well, it's almost March and we still have no answers from all the medical tests.  I know that it is risky to head south knowing that our travel medical insurance wouldn't cover any related problems but staying home and getting no answers is very frustrating.  We now must wait until the next Specialist appointment which is the beginning of April.  This is rediculous!  We are both very anxious to get away so I sure hope that March brings warmer and dryer weather.  Right now - we plan the first trip to the RV at the end of March.
