From Glennallen to Willow

Friday, August 17th we left Glennallen at 6:30am and headed for Palmer.  The road was paved but with lots of dips and at times we had to keep the speed down.  We went through an area with very winding roads that brought us along side an amazing Glacier.  It is really cool to see all the ice go on for miles.  We also encountered quite a bit of road construction so it was slow going today.
 The Ice Field.

We reached Palmer around 10:30 and went directly to Fred Meyer to get some groceries, lunch and fuel.  The diesel was only $3.92 a gallon so getting better as we go.  After lunch we went down to the Fairgrounds where we waited for the MVs to arrive.

In Palmer at lunchtime.
After lots of socializing and a driver’s meeting we headed out again with some of the MVs going over the Hatcher Pass and the rest taking the Palmer-Willow Highway.

Along the road.

We arrived at the Hatcher Pass RV Park in Willow and filled up our water tanks and then set up camp with power only.  By 6:30 all the vehicles had arrived and the campground put on a BARBQ of burgers, hotdogs, smokies, salad, beans, chips and pop.  They brought in a DJ who played great country music until about 10pm.
**We saw 2 moose alongside the highway today.
