Wednesday, August 15th we were up early and pulled out onto the road at 6:30am. We waited at the rest area ½ mile up the road for the rest of the support vehicles to catch up and then we were on our way. We continued to climb and climb until we finally reached the Canada/US border crossing which was at 4200 feet. The views were incredible and you definitely felt like you were indeed on Top of the World.
After coming through the border we continued on very slowly as the roads were winding and very rough.
I think our average speed was probably 40km. It took us 2 hours to travel the 67 miles to Chicken, Alaska. We pulled into Chicken and decided to fuel up before checking into the campground. Diesel was $4.69 a gallon. We continued on to the Chicken Gold campground and were assigned to site #39 which was a gravel back in site with 20 amp electric, no water and no sewer.
After wiping down EVERYTHING inside the trailer from the dust, we made some sandwiches and then took a walk around Chicken. Interesting place with a nice little restaurant and a little gift shop with most things ‘chicken’ .

Back to the RV for a nice cold drink and a little R&R while we waited for the rest of the convoy to arrive. With all the hills and bad road we traveled, the convoy came in about 3 hours after us.
In the evening we all got together for a driver's meeting and then had a nice Chicken dinner. With changing the clocks back an hour and such a rough ride today we were so tired that we were in bed at 9pm. LOL
